Mindfulness – the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment – has become so popular that even elite athletes, performing artists and business leaders are taking up the practice.

A large body of research has found evidence for the effectiveness of mindfulness to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, and to promote psychological well-being, self-esteem, vitality, and authenticity. Mindfulness is also a necessary precondition for healing trauma, as being mindful enables you to become attentive to your body and can help you return to a sense of safety by deactivating the fight-flight-freeze response.

Mindfulness practice reconditions the habitual pattern of dissociating from what is happening in your body, as you begin to observe and accept thoughts, feelings and experiences in the here and now.
